“Recollections” is the debut recording of Craig Burdette and contains twelve original piano solos composed over a period of about ten years. While there is a variety of styles on the CD, the music is mostly smooth, optimistic, and very well-crafted. Burdette has painted musical portraits of some of the people and events in his life using a palette of warm, gentle colors. This music is ideal for relaxation, to have playing while doing quiet activities, or to enjoy with full attention. With a solid music background, Burdette brings a variety of influences to his music including classical, choral, pop, and new age, and presents us with a fresh, uplifting musical voice.

“Chorale” begins the CD with a hymn-like piece that indicates the importance of choral and church music on Burdette’s development. Stately and restrained, this is one of the more classical pieces on the album. “Kevin & Alisha” was composed as a surprise wedding gift for Burdette’s brother and overflows with warmth and love. “The Road Less Travelled” is reflective and introspective with a sense of optimism. “Vermont Serenade” is one of my favorites. Composed while on a honeymoon of sorts, the mood is calm and blissful. “Saturdays With Dad” is a loving “thank you” to a father who was always supportive of Burdette’s music and spent many of his Saturdays taking his son to and from his piano lessons. Warm, graceful, and loving, it’s a very touching tribute. “Badlands” is an almost 7-minute composition inspired while driving across the country in the early ‘90s. A bit more ambient and less melodic than most of the other pieces, it creates a mood of vast openness and solitude. “Ron’s Song” is a beautiful song for a new love - warmth and contentment can be sensed in every note. “Renaissance” returns to Burdette’s classical roots and lifelong passion for this period of history. Blending 16th century and contemporary musical styles, Burdette has created a very effective piece. The title track is a bit darker and more pensive - another favorite. “Meant To Be” is a gorgeous love song that is both graceful and evocative. “Peace Is Always Beautiful” was inspired by a poem by Walt Whitman and brings the CD to a close with gentle optimism.

“Recollections” is a very effective first CD, and I hope it is just the beginning for Craig Burdette! It is available from www.craigburdette.com and CDBaby.com. Recommended!
